START AGAIN MONDAY
22/3/21
Welcome to Start Again Mondays
Alrighty… start again
Something I’m Pondering
I was struggling to fall asleep last night
I’m noticing a lot of dissonance around a particular area of my life at the moment
I would love to shove my head in the sand
Just blissfully ignore it
My body is saying otherwise
With a clenched jaw, tight neck and raised heartbeat
I got my phone and clambered back into bed
I began searching for some escape
My Youtube feed is an eclectic collection
Fragrance reviews
Na
Hunting gear reviews
No
Jiu Jitsu moves
Nope
Sigh
Then a Ted Talk popped up
One of those old school ones (I feel old typing that)
This particular talk was on dissecting the meaning of life
Small topic
I clicked
The speaker ran through some possibilities
Is it about choice?
Is it about time?
Is it about memory?
Is it about communication?
Love?
Contribution?
Happiness?
Learning?
I’ll cut to the chase
Life has no meaning, other than what I consciously or unconsciously project onto it
Meh. Nothing I haven’t heard before
But what got me curious was the punchline
Remove whatever meaning is holding you back
Simple
Not necessarily easy
Mmm
What meaning have I given to something which is preventing me from flow?
What projected meaning is holding me back?
Curious
I felt a shift
Why?
Because I was reminded that I have a choice
To notice what meaning I have given to something
Consciously, or unconsciously
And to try let it go (maybe with a dash of love)
I felt back in the drivers seat
I took a breath
I hugged my pillow
And fell asleep
Something for Process
Derek Sivers on the process of riding his bicycle
This clip always inspires me to get curious about the way I approach my processes
My auditions, meetings, rehearsals, practice, on-set routines etc etc
It’s about 4 minutes long
Also, it’s animated!
I like cartoons
Especially ones that help me breathe easier

Poem I’m Considering
The Guy in the Glass
by Dale Wimbrow, 1934
When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.
For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.
He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.
You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,
And think you're a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the guy in the glass.
