START AGAIN MONDAY

22/2/21

Welcome to Start Again Mondays

Alrighty…

Start again

Something I’m Reading

I bought a children’s book

No, it wasn’t for my four year old niece

(who I beat at tennis this weekend - just sayin)

This one was for me

Mikey And The Dragons - By Jocko Willink

Yep, Jocko Willink

Retired Navy SEAL and New York Times’ #1 Bestselling author

Famous for posting a photo of his watch at 4:30am every morning

Wrote a book for kids

And I love it

Especially the pictures

Drenched in Jungian Psychology and founded on the Hero Archetype

The story follows Mikey as he realises the dragons he is terrified of

Are far smaller in real life than they were in his head

But the only way he is able to do that

Is by facing them

Cute

But it got me thinking

What dragon am I hiding from?

What dragon have I made massive in my mind?

What dragon is it time to face?

I can think of two in particular at the moment

Even the thought of facing them makes me feel ew

I just started sweating a bit actually as I type this

(Thanks for trying to keep me alive body)

But the moments I tend to look back on with pride in my life

Are the times when I’ve felt a deep sense of knowing

That its time to go climb the mountain

Walk into the dark cave with love

And meet my dragon

Maybe pat it on the face awkwardly

Curious

Better Questions = Better Answers

Lets boil this down to a helpful question

What dragon in my life do I want to make smaller?

Something I’m Listening To

The Tim Ferris Show: Episode #498

This episode features one of Tim’s close friends, Josh Waitzkin

It’s Josh’s fourth appearance on the show

I could geek out on the conversations between these two all day long

The level at which they break down performance and life is phenomenal

World class in not only their own fields

But in guiding some of the worlds leading performers, athletes, investors and entrepreneurs

These guys boil massive concepts down to very helpful and doable ideas

This episode includes two ideas in particular I love ruminating on

Firstly, that ones biggest strength is usually right next to their biggest wound

Secondly, what advice would one get from their best future self to help with present chaos

Its a 90 minute interview

Heres the YouTube version of the podcast
