START AGAIN MONDAY

Welcome to SAM
Start Again Mondays

Alrighty

Start again…

Something Im watching

I saw a really great German short film last night

I noticed a thought pop up during it

“I don’t know how to act”

Im amazed that after doing this for more than half my life

I still have moments where I feel like I have no idea what Im doing

That I am a fraud, and everyone will realise it…

And I LOVE it :)

I love that feeling

What a bananas job

So in celebration of this thought

Here is one take of Brando and Bobby doing a scene three times over

Keep it simple stupid

Something I’m reading:

This is a quote I’m currently reading over most mornings

Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative or creation, there is one elementary truth...that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves. too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in ones's favour all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have believed would have come his way.

“Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin it.

Action has magic, grace, and power in it.”

― W.H. Murray The Scottish Himalayan Expedition

Something for performance

I wanted to share why I would be reading the same thing over and over, day after day

Its called the Reticular Activating System (RAS)

This is something Angie Ford shared with me back when I was about to throw in the towel in 2015

The RAS is a bundle of nerves at the base of the brain

Acting as a filter between the conscious and subconscious brain

Consciously the brain can take in 30-40 bits of information per second

However, subconsciously - millions of bits of information per second

The RAS acts like a secretary, passing on the important bits of information from the subconscious to the conscious brain

But how does the RAS know which are the important bits of information to let through to the conscious brain?

By what you focus on

And thus, What you focus on, is what you get

Buying that brand new blue car, and suddenly seeing it everywhere? RAS

Telling yourself not to think about that pink elephant and still seeing it clearly? RAS

Telling yourself every night at the start of act 4 that the audience hates you and you don’t deserve to be leading at the opera house, and then looking up and seeing the coughs and whispers and distracted bored faces? RAS

Yup

A thought is just a thought

But a thought that is repeated, day after day, for 60-90 days?

That manifests into things - actions, decisions, behaviours

Whats the takeaway here?

I have a choice in what I feed my mind

Hence, I try my best to put things into focus that I actually want

To help my RAS help me :)

Heres a 4 minute YouTube clip with music and pictures which explains it in more detail if ya want
